Kentucky Derby Museum Pie

Through much searching for the BEST pie ever, this comes straight from the “horse’s mouth.” Make your own Kentucky Derby Museum Pie.

Editors’ note: Only Kern’s Kitchen Inc. can lay claim to the name, “Derby-Pie” which is described as “premium chocolate and choice walnuts folded into a decadent filling, then baked in Grandma Leaudra’s delicate crust.” The Almanac cook who submitted this recipe uses a mix of chocolate chips and pecans and was very happy with the results!

Ingredients
1/2 cup butter
1 cup sugar
2 eggs, beaten
1/2 cup flour
1 pinch salt
2 tablespoons Kentucky bourbon or 1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup chopped pecans
1 cup chocolate chips
1 9 inch pie shell, partially baked

Instructions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Cream butter and sugar. Add beaten eggs, flour, salt, and Kentucky Bourbon (or vanilla). Add chocolate chips and nuts. Stir well. Pour into partially baked pie shell and bake for 30 minutes, or until center is set.

Serve with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
